What’s Happening This Winter in Sacramento

There is always something great happening in Sacramento. For those who are moving to Sacramento or have only been here a short time, you may be interested to know more about winter activities happening over the next few months. Our guide will give you the information you need to have a fun time as the winter rolls on.

SacAnime 2017 Convention

SacAnime offers a pop culture convention that mostly focuses on anime and cosplay. It is held in a fun and safe environment that is always family friendly and draws a big crowd. This convention is open from the 6th through the 8th of January at the Sacramento Convention Center.

At this event, you can expect to find workshops, tabletop gaming, console gaming, karaoke and viewing rooms for shows and films, as well as much more. The entire family is likely to find something fun to do while wandering the vast convention center space.

Registration can be done by the day or for the entire weekend, depending on what you prefer. Children who are eight years of age or younger can come in for free, as long as a registered adult is present with them at all times.

Dine Downtown Restaurant Week

Whether you are a foodie or just enjoy trying new things, the Dine Downtown Restaurant Week is something you should not miss. The gourmet food scene will be as accessible as ever, as this event showcases the best and the brightest involved in culinary cuisine in Sacramento.

The dates for this event are January 12th through the 22nd and all tickets benefit food literacy programs right here in Sacramento. You can enjoy a 3-course prix fixe meal at some of the most loved fine dining restaurants for $35 a ticket.

Sacramento is an industry leader in the fine dining scene so anyone with an appetite should make sure to turn out for this event. It is win/win as you get your stomach full and food literacy education is passed on to a child who needs it most. You might even find a new favorite restaurant to frequent!

Love is in the Air Exhibit

If you are looking for things to do in Sacramento and find yourself drawn to art, the Love is in the Air Exhibit may be right up your alley. The Artists’ Collaborative Gallery on K Street will be showcasing many artistic pieces that give off a feeling of happiness and love just in time for Valentine’s Day.

This exhibit opens on January 2nd and runs through February 14th, making it a great option for someone who has a day free with no plans. The best part is this exhibit is free, as well. Dozens of artists will have works on display and those who find something special may make a purchase if they desire.

Behind the Scenes Tour

For those who are moving to Sacramento soon, you may want to know a little bit more about the area you are moving into. You are in luck because the California State Archives offers a great history lesson that is open to the public, each and every month.

During the tour, you can expect to be guided through a number of collections that go into state government and history. The spring tours will be held on January 27, February 24, and March 24 so save the date in your planner.

These tours are perfect for learning more about the community and meeting others. The tour lasts approximately an hour and will start at noon on the fourth floor of the archives building. But make sure to sign up early as these events sometimes sell out.

Toy, Game, and Pop Culture Expo

If you enjoy pop culture and are looking into moving to Sacramento, you are in luck when it comes to the expo options you can find. Remember When Toys and Collectibles hosts Toy, Game, and Pop Culture Expo at Great Escape Games on January 21st.

This event is entirely free and features many things to do, no matter your age. Tables of vendors will be selling various games and toys. Game companies will be around to show you new products and sell their newest games. There will even be a movie screening available.

You can expect to see local fan groups and artists if you take part in this event. It’s a great place to meet others and have fun on a Saturday afternoon.
